![]() The positive effects exerted by silica fume and fly ash on properties of Portland cement mortar have been emphasized. It can be concluded that SCC with manufactured sand and fly ash can be used for all applications in the construction sector.įerro cement is a versatile construction material having unique properties of strength and serviceability that promote low cost technology in both urban and rural applications. The reason for the same modulus of elasticity for all SCC mixes may be attributed to presence of large contents of mineral admixtures, make the SCC mix denser, which will increase in stiffness. Static modulus of elasticity has been computed for all the SCC mixes and is found to be less than the value computed by using IS: 456-2000. Further, it is noted that IS: 456 underestimates the flexural strength compared to corresponding experimental observations. The modulus of rupture values are slightly decreasing with the increase of % replacement of cement by fly ash. It is observed from the studies that the compressive strength and split tensile strength decreases with the increase in replacement of cement by fly ash. Mechanical properties such as compressive strength, split tensile strength, modulus of rupture and modulus of elasticity have been evaluated as per Bureau of Indian Standards. SCC containing different proportion of fly ash have been tested for Slump flow, V-funnel, U-Box, L-box and J-ring and found that the values are within the limits prescribed by EFNARC. Characterization studies of all the ingredients of SCC have been carried out. This paper presents the details self compacting concrete (SCC) developed by using fly ash and manufactured sand. The study indicated that fly ash and waste glass powder can effectively be used as cement replacement without substantial change in strength. Different mix proportions are prepared using cement replaced by equal quantity of fly ash and waste glass powder. In the present investigation, concrete paving blocks may be produced with locally available cement, aggregates, fly ash and waste glass powder as the mineral admixture. To increase the applications of concrete paving blocks, greater understanding of products produced with locally available materials and indigenously produced mineral admixtures is essential. The rising costs of construction materials and the need to adhere to sustainability, alternative construction techniques and materials are being sought. But now being adopted extensively in different uses where the conventional construction of pavement using hot bituminous mix or cement concrete technology is not feasible or desirable. Interlocking concrete paving blocks are ideal materials on the footpaths, parking areas, gardens, etc. Construction industry has to support a world of continuing population growth and economic development. Problems associated with construction site have been known for many years. ![]()
